Welcome
to Citizens State Bank located at Corrigan, Texas in beautiful north
Polk County. Corrigan is located on U.S. Highway 59 at the intersection
of U.S. Highway 287, just 90 miles north of the fourth largest city
in the United States, Houston. Corrigan sits within the southern
coastal plain, in the East Texas pine and hardwood forests. West
of Corrigan is the Davy Crockett National Forest, while on our east
is the Angelina National Forest and the Sabine National Forest.
The great Sam Houston National Forest lies south. The population
within Corrigan city limits is 1721, although an estimated 6500
people live within our school district.
Corrigan is within a fifty-mile radius to many historical sites
and recreational opportunities. In Nacogdoches, the oldest town
in Texas, the Old Stone Fort is located on the Stephen F. Austin
State University campus. For nature lovers, the Big Thicket National
Preserve (85,500 acres) provides nature trails and unique botanical
sites. Nearby, the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation settled
in the early 1700's, is a major attraction for tourists and locals
alike. Two large lakes are major attractions that provide excellent
fishing and water sports opportunities. To the south is the man-made
83,000 acre Lake Livingston and east of Corrigan is the large Sam
Rayburn Reservoir covering 114,500 acres. Museums, recreational
facilities, colleges, junior colleges, movie theaters, and shopping
malls are available in our nearby cities.
Corrigan,
founded in 1882, was named to honor Pat Corrigan, conductor on the
first train of the Southern-Pacific Railroad that ran east and west
of town. In the year 1938, Corrigan was incorporated as a township.
Our award winning school district, composed of four separate campuses,
excels in both academics and athletics. Timber and agriculture are
our community's main industries. Being located in the heart
of pine woods with timber as a primary industry, Corrigan and nearby
Camden are home of two large Georgia-Pacific plants. The Mickey Reily
Public Library is our local widely acclaimed regional library. Local
organizations include the Lion's Club, Masonic Lodge, Corrigan Youth
Rodeo Association, 4-H Club, and various other clubs. Our little
league facility is outstanding with four little league fields, two
adult sized softball fields, a soccer field, and a picnic park all
located next to the Bill Garsee Rodeo Arena. Twelve churches of
various denominations serve our community.
Although Corrigan is considered small by some, we think of our
town as having the best of both worlds. Our major highways provide
easy access to larger cities that give us many choices; however,
we also have the pleasure of knowing our neighbors, being somewhat
laid back, and having a beautiful place to call home.
